About us

About us

Taco Trio's mission is to bring traditional Mexican food to our community. Our recipes come from our founder's mother and the families of some of our Mexican team members. Taco Trio's menu represents foods common among the street vendors and markets of Mexico. We prepare everything daily, from scratch. Our bar features a curated selection of agave spirits, including traditional sotol and racilla as well as tequilas and mezcals.

In addition to faithfully serving the flavors of Mexico, Taco Trio is committed to environmental sustainability. All of our utensils and packaging are compostable. We compost and recycle 90% of our waste (and produce only one sidewalk bin of trash weekly).

OUR FOUNDER:

Manny Pena grew up in central Mexico in a small town in the state of Guanajuato. He learned butchering from this father and cooking from his mother. Manny came to the U.S. at 21, moving from Texas to North Carolina and finally to Maine. He opened Taco Trio in South Portland in 2011, with the goal of bringing the foods of his childhood and some Mexican culture to the Portland area. Taco Trio continues to honor his mission and his memory. We miss his energy, his commitment to quality, his friendship and his many talents. He's with us in spirit.

Manuel Pena, March 1964-October 2024.
